Portland
Portland is the largest city in Oregon. Like most major cities, it is located on a river. The Willamette River runs right by the city and that flows to the Columbia River. Portland has a lot of nice things about it, for a larger city. It has a nice waterfront area and that is the staging area for many of the festivals and events that Portland has during the year. The biggest one of these is the Portland Rose Festival. And every weekend Portland has the Saturday Market, a popular place to shop and eat. I personally don't get to downtown Portland very often any more. There is a lot to see and do and great places to spend money. Sometimes I would like to go down and just browse around, and then I think of the time and energy to get there, although we have the Max line to get us down there now....it still seems like a lot of work! My age is showing maybe?
Portland has some great places to visit such as the Oregon Zoo, the Japanese Gardens and the Classical Chinese Garden, the largest one outside of China. These are places that I want to visit again, since it's been far too long. Great photo op's at these places.
Portland has two Rose Gardens. The first one is for roses. It is a test garden and attracts visitors when the roses are in full bloom. It's a beautiful setting and the view of Portland and to the east is spectacular. The other is the name of the sporting arena where our basketball team, The Trailblazers, have their games. And, of course, all the other things that go on at these places like concerts and such.
My husband and son are, of course, huge Blazer fans. Especially now that the team has finally come out of the deep, dark place that they were in for several years, and are now a young, vital, energetic team which is once again a source of pride for our city. Go Blazers!
